J'Accuse of Tuesday, December 30, 2025: Ethical and political dissertations on national and international political events

Emile Zola, J'Accuse!

This year 2025 has come to an end, burdened, like all the past, with salient political events and tragedies that the current international actors are unable to resolve. I am referring to the two major wars that involve significant forces and finances on both sides. I am obviously referring to the war in Ukraine, which I would like to address first, but briefly. It would never have taken place if international rules had been respected; But since the West is content to always say that the aggressor was Putin's Russia, without a single line of self-criticism from the current leaders of the major powers, an end to this war is far from here, despite negotiations, which Washington says are well underway and are nearing completion on the main issue of Donbas and the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The solution lies in their continuation until the destruction and surrender of one of the contenders. This is truly a great contradiction! They say the negotiations have resolved all issues except Donbas? Is this just a comedy of art intended to mock us? Friends! Donbass is at stake, and the Russians are there to defend the Russian minorities attacked by Kiev's Nazi troops—remember the Azov Regiment?—until the current Ukrainian leadership declares its renunciation of those territories. This will not happen because France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, the main imperial powers, refuse to concede to Moscow. This was the reason the 2014 coup was orchestrated, as was the very construction of the Kiev regime, desired and supported by them and by then-President Biden, the main perpetrator and instigator of the conflict for the interests of his son, and others, in the tormented country. Friends, if you will allow me, I could compare today's Ukraine to a jumble of conflicting interests. How can the United States, the main shipowner and financier of the war, perform this mediating role? This too is incomprehensible. It can only be understood if we contextualize the nascent Trump regime with new domestic and international policies, diametrically opposed to those of previous White House administrations. Yet Trump's current America continues to provide weapons, logistical support, and intelligence to Kiev, and this speaks volumes about the confusion and lack of clarity even in the Russian camp, where the war of attrition with Europe, waged through trenches and drone strikes and is leading to an exasperation that could herald radical solutions. Russia cannot continue this war of attrition, and its lack of dominance on the ground could lead to the use of secret weapons that have not yet been used. Given the general sleeping in European consciences, this means we are heading towards grim and deadly precipices. The relentlessness and obstinacy—and I would add, the lack of intelligence—of these leaders is a serious and paralyzing problem. The second issue I would like to bring to your attention is no less serious and dramatic, but given that the opposing side is a defenseless people abandoned by all, both sides are attempting to cover up their own guilt by using language and syntax consistent with their own political identity. Here too, dear friends, the democratic West has thoroughly and conscientiously dirtied its hands during nearly three years of war against a Palestinian civilian population murdered, slaughtered daily by the weapons of countries like Italy, France, and Germany, not to mention the United States, the leading supporter of the Jewish state. Berlin and Rome are ranked as the second and third largest arms suppliers. The Meloni government has provided support and comfort to its troops vacationing in Italy. Tens of thousands of children and women have been slaughtered before the eyes of those who claim to be Christian and democratic! Last but not least, this investigative story of funding to Hamas from Italy. It involves Palestinian figures exiled in Italy and Italian militants. I say the charges against those arrested came from Tel Aviv. But they have credibility and impartiality, given that the current Israeli leadership is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity and genocide of the Palestinian people. All this alone would be sufficient to not endorse, and I would even say not use, such evidence. The Israeli state itself is guilty of war crimes as a whole, and the United Nations says so. So what judiciary would endorse such pettiness?  Ultimately, the message the Meloni government wants to send to the country is that the Palestinians are terrorists and that Israel, despite having committed genocide, is a victim, thus distorting the truth, as it usually tries to do in its rallies. A very interesting article on this matter was written today in Repubblica, a newspaper that often leans toward logic and themes aligned with the moderate opposition of the constitutional spectrum. Its author, Luigi Manconi, titled it "The Child and the Dirty Water." In short, he accuses the Meloni government of trying to hide its guilt in the war against Gaza, stirring up this fuss about Hamas funding, and attacking left-wing figures like Fratoianni and Boldrini, who had their picture taken with the arrested man. He retorts: "But what about Salvini? Didn't he have his picture taken with the leader of the Milanese supporters accused of drug dealing?" It's not an incorrect symmetry, but it's still immoral and unfounded, in the absence of credible evidence. This incident demonstrates how the far-right political establishment has engaged in a hostile and misleading propaganda campaign: "To be considered a terrorist, he must have engaged in actual terrorist activities." We hope that the Italian judiciary will examine the case and render a judgment as soon as possible.
