White smoke in Rome and black smoke in Gaza! An observer rightly commented. It doesn’t matter whether the smoke is white or black, but whether it sows death and horror or brings hope and peace to the world. This Pope, unknown to the vast majority of people, comes to us with peaceful intentions and a significant name: no longer the charitable Francis, the one who wanted to strip the church and its clergy of luxuries and riches in the name of an evangelical life based on solidarity and closeness to the weakest and those who suffer in countless scenarios, but with the name of the Lion. He would have done well to look inside himself before attributing this new identity, well-spread among his predecessors in past centuries. The grave and dark hour requires a strong and feared man who faces the tragedies, injustices and unjust wars of our time, a man who tells the truth often forbidden and censored by the democratic governments of this Christian West that has betrayed the very values ​​of Christianity and democracy that are the basis of its civilization. It is therefore a question of updating the great principles, in the same way as Pope Leo XIII who in his Social Encyclical Rerum Novarum, promulgated on May 15, 1891, sanctioned the Social Doctrine of the Church on the most burning issues of the time: the right to property, capitalism, wages, State intervention in the economy, associations (corporations or unions). It is a work not only of updating but of adaptation to our time full of abuses and infamies, if we consider that the wild capitalism that today governs Western economies has created the oligarchs who today decide the fate not only of the same societies but even dare to replace the church itself as defenders of Christian values. Democracy does not matter to them and even less so social and international peace and that is why it is so important that a Catholic Pope resumes today his role as Shepherd and Warner towards those who sow injustice, horror and violence in the world. Leo XIV can succeed in his mission if he preaches peace, brotherhood and solidarity among peoples defeating the charlatans and false prophets who today swarm behind the fascist and populist ideologies that are before us both in Italy and in Europe and finally in the same native land of this Leo. As stated already it is time to return to the trenches, because the demons are among us in the guise of Angels and witches. We cannot escape the battle of the Lion in the most symbolic and ideal way. We are teeth of his jaws, we are letters of his alphabet, we are seeds of peace and perennial strength.
