J'Accuse of January 9, 1926, on discursive coherence and morality: from strength to weakness
the USA is its moral decline
If, as the German philosopher Kant said, morality is an intrinsic fact and always depends on values and the same respect for creation and, more generally, for the world around us, formulating this theory in his famous phrase: "Morality is within me and the starry sky is above me," today we witness a competition between global players in which each has its own set of values and ethics that justify its power and its expansionist endeavors. In this context, wars and tragedies are multiplying, as the old powers refuse to yield to emerging or reawakening powers the conquests made in recent decades, particularly since the Second World War. This context is also reflected in the US's attempts to maintain control over energy sources—oil, minerals, and rare earths—located in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia (see the fierce defense of the independence of the island of Taiwan). (despite having been Chinese in past centuries) or in Central and South America where the Trump administration just carried out an operation illegal from every point of view on January 3rd, kidnapping the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, accusing him, moreover, of being the head of a drug trafficking organization, the stuff of "science fiction". The problem today in international relations is that the repeated and continuous violation by the United States of America of its allies in Europe and the Middle East (Israel), placing itself above the legal system of values represented by the Charter of the United Nations and all conventions regarding respect for human rights and individual freedoms and the sovereignty of states itself, is nullifying international law itself and introducing chaos and uncertainty into the world. And so, in the absence of a morality adopted and respected by all, we face an era of turmoil and disgrace represented by unpunished genocides such as that committed by Israel against the Palestinians in Gaza and by aggressions such as those perpetrated against Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria, with the aim of seizing their oil resources, which are necessary to continue supporting and pumping dollars into an American economy that maintains its empire and the wars that are instrumental to its survival, with wealth not generated by the Americans, but acquired through imposed protectionist agreements, illiberal and protectionist tariffs and taxes, and the sale of weapons and technologies that are useless and harmful to humanity and the peaceful progress of nations. In short, the use of force and the change of governments through manipulations like those we witnessed in Caracas are the end of international law and of the United Nations itself. They also, and above all, represent the symptom of a sick and confused empire that thinks it can control the world with military force and space and information technology. It is also the symbolic act of when power loses that light with which it becomes an absolute evil both for itself and for its neighbors and the entire world. Power without respect for morality is a constant danger and must call upon all global actors to formulate an adequate response so that, as Kant said, the stars will shine. May they return to illuminate our world. If even the stars go out, we will all be plunged into the darkness of tyranny and abuse, and Trump's plans for conquest are a warning signal for all nations and for his country's very democratic institutions. A democratic system cannot fail if it is based on checks and balances, but if these are altered the whole system collapses.
